From Tools to Practice: Energy Modelling Case Studies – AEMN Workshop

We are pleased to invite participants to the next African Energy Modelling Network (AEMN) online workshop, titled “From Tools to Practice: Energy Modelling Case Studies”, dedicated to presenting concrete modelling applications developed within the OpenMod4Africa (OM4A) framework.

This workshop follows the first OM4A online session held on 11 May, “Powering Decisions: The Tools Behind the Energy Transition”, which introduced the OM4A Toolbox and its functionalities. Building on that foundation, this second session shifts the focus from tools to real-world applications, highlighting how energy modelling approaches are being used in practice across African contexts.

The workshop will showcase regional experiences and case studies from East and West Africa, illustrating how open-source modelling tools can support energy planning and decision-making.

In addition, the session will further introduce the African Energy Modelling Network (AEMN), its objectives, and ongoing activities, while fostering exchange among researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders working in energy modelling and planning.

Agenda highlights include:

  • Introduction to the African Energy Modelling Network (AEMN) and its objectives
  • Presentations of regional case studies from East and West Africa
  • Open discussion and exchange with participants

This workshop aims to strengthen collaboration and knowledge-sharing around open-source energy modelling for Africa’s energy transition.

Participants are encouraged to circulate this invitation among colleagues and stakeholders who may be interested in the topic.

We look forward to your participation and to continuing the discussion on collaborative, practice-oriented energy modelling in Africa.
